Your engine’s timing system keeps the crankshaft and camshaft working together, and when it fails, the damage can be severe. Depending on the engine, your diesel uses a timing belt, a timing chain, or a set of timing gears. At Brookwood Truck & Trailer, we inspect and repair all three, so your engine stays in time and on the road.
BELTS, CHAINS, AND GEARS
Timing belts wear out with age and mileage and need to be replaced on a schedule. Since the water pump often sits behind the belt, it’s usually smart to replace it at the same time. Timing chains last longer but can stretch over time, and worn guides or tensioners can make noise or throw off timing. Timing gears are built to last but can still develop wear or damage. Not sure which one your engine has? Give us a call and we’ll let you know.
SIGNS OF A TIMING PROBLEM
- Rattling, ticking, or whining from the front of the engine
- Hard starts or a no-start
- Check engine light with timing related codes
- Oil leaks from the front cover
- Rough running or loss of power
